A statement from Sri Lanka Cricket regarding the Sri Lanka team touring Pakistan.

The cricket body has clarified the situation regarding the crisis situation that has arisen during the three-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Several players of the Sri Lankan team have decided to return to Sri Lanka following the suicide bombing in Islamabad minutes before the first ODI between the two countries was to be held.

Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement that the team management informed them yesterday (12) morning that several members of the Sri Lankan team had requested to return to the country due to security concerns.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka Cricket has urgently discussed the matter with the players. The players were assured that they will work closely with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and relevant authorities to ensure the safety of everyone and that all issues will be resolved appropriately.

In this situation, Sri Lanka Cricket has instructed all players, support staff and team management to continue the tournament as planned.

However, if any player or member of the team decides to return to Sri Lanka despite the order issued by Sri Lanka Cricket, the cricket body says that it is ready to send replacement players to the team to ensure the tournament continues without interruption.

Accordingly, if any player or member of the support staff returns despite the orders issued by Sri Lanka Cricket, a formal investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken against them, the statement issued by Sri Lanka Cricket states.
