Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, says that he does not consider the recent statement made by National People’s Power MP Lakmali Hemachandra as a contempt of court.
The Minister made these comments after the opposition strongly criticized the statement made by MP Lakmali Hemachandra at a Provincial Coordination Committee meeting held in Colombo.
The controversial situation arose when the MP requested officials at the meeting not to implement a court order to evict unauthorized residents from a land located in Narahenpita.
Commenting on this, Minister Harshana Nanayakkara said the following.
“I don’t think what she said was contempt of court. I don’t believe she interfered with the process of justice. It was an administrative discussion.”
