Warrants issued to arrest Basil Rajapaksa and produce him in court .

Matara Chief Magistrate Chathuranga Eranga Dissanayake today ordered the arrest and production of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa in court as he continues to evade court.

This order was issued when the case filed against the former Minister was taken up for hearing before the Matara Magistrate’s Court today (21).

The warrants were issued in the Matara Magistrate’s Court by the Police Financial Crimes Division in the case filed against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa in connection with the purchase of a one and a half acre land located at Brownshill, Eliyakanda Road, Matara, after he failed to appear on May (22).

Former President Basil Rajapaksa is currently residing in the United States and his lawyers have informed the court that he is unable to return to the country due to an illness.
