Nepal Press Union condemns actions of Presidential Media Advisor Chandana Suriyabandara

The Nepal Press Union strongly condemns the recent actions of Mr. Chandana Suriyabandara, Media Advisor to the Presidential Media Unit of Sri Lanka.

The obstruction, physical assault, and intimidation of two journalists from the Lake House media institution—who were carrying out their professional duties during the ‘Ehipassiko’ Monk Peace March—are condemnable and unacceptable. Such behavior, especially during a peaceful march based on the principles of non-violence, is deeply concerning.

The Nepal Press Union firmly stands in support of press freedom and freedom of expression and will continue to do so. Nepali journalists remain committed to protecting and promoting these fundamental rights. At this difficult time, we express our solidarity with Sri Lankan journalists and reaffirm that Nepali लjournalists will always stand with them.
