Yoshitha granted bail .

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered the release on bail of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was arrested and remanded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The Magistrate, while announcing his decision, ordered that the suspect be released on bail in accordance with the provisions of the Bail Act as the prosecution has failed to present sufficient evidence to further remand the suspect.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake issued this order after considering the facts at length.

Accordingly, the suspect was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs. 50 million each. The court, which banned the suspect from traveling abroad, ordered that the Controller of Immigration and Emigration be informed of this.

The Magistrate, who ordered the suspect to report to the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division on the last Sunday of every month, also ordered him to refrain from influencing witnesses.
