Water from bowsers until water supply is restored.

Due to the bad weather that affected the island, water supply has been disrupted in a number of districts. The necessary steps have been taken to restore the disrupted water supply within the next few days, said Engineer A.M.P.C.T. Bandara, Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.

Accordingly, on the instructions of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, he said that the assistance of the Tri-Forces, the Irrigation Department, the Road Development Authority and the Electricity Board has been obtained to provide water supply to the consumers promptly.

He stated this while participating in a media briefing held at the Tri-Forces Security Headquarters today (30).

The Chairman stated that due to the bad weather that has affected the island in recent days, water treatment plants and water pumping stations in a number of districts have been flooded, and that water treatment plants and water pumping stations in the Kandy district have suffered extensive damage.

The Chairman stated that water supply has currently been disrupted in the Tissamaharama, Kataragama, Badulla, Bandarawela, Welimada, Ampara, North Central, Northern and North Western provinces, and that water supply has now been restored to 100 percent in the Galle, Anuradhapura, Batticaloa and Ratnapura districts.

He also mentioned that the main water sources in the Western Province, namely Ambatale, Labugama, Kalapuwa and Biyagama, have not been damaged, and that the threat to the water treatment plants and water pumping stations due to the overflow of the Kelani River has now passed.

The Chairman of the Water Supply Board said that steps have been taken to provide water to many areas where water supply has been disrupted with the help of water bowsers, and that it is possible to provide 100 percent water supply within the next three days.
