Walas Kata who jumped from the third floor is in the hospital with serious injuries.

Thilina Sampath alias “Walas Kata”, who attempted to escape from the custody of the Western Province North Crime Division, has reportedly suffered injuries to his legs and one arm.

Police said he is currently being held under a 90-day detention order and is being questioned by the Western Province North Crime Division.

The suspect had informed officers at around 9.15 last night that he needed to use the toilet and accordingly, after removing his handcuffs, four officers took him to do so.

It is reported that ‘Walas Kata’ attacked officers while going to the toilet and jumped from the third floor of the building.

As a result, both of his legs have been broken and one of his arms has been broken at the elbow, according to the police. The bear is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital under heavy police protection.
