Veteran theatre artist Kalasuri Satishchandra Edirisinghe has passed away at a private hospital, family sources confirm.
He was 84 years old when he died, having been receiving treatment there as a resident due to an illness.
He displayed outstanding talent in various media including Sinhala cinema, stage and teledrama, and remained in the industry for more than five decades, contributing to many excellent works.
He entered film directing through the film “Matara Achchi” and gifted the audience with many meaningful works such as ‘Rajagedara Paruwa’, ‘Sri Madara’ and ‘Satyagriha’.
His performances in films like ‘Mahagedara’, ‘Bambaru Aetha’ and ‘Mathu Yam Diksha’ were critically acclaimed.
He also showcased his talent through teledramas like ‘Mahamera’ and stage plays like ‘Hunu Wataye Katha’.
