Venerable Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero says that Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Shani Abeysekara, is a person who has been working to weaken the intelligence services of this country for a long time. The Thero said that he is saying this considering his past activities.
Shani Abeysekara once took action to convict a group of military officers who arrested an LTTE truck bomb that was prepared to completely destroy the city of Colombo, and all relevant information has been recorded, the Thero said. However, the Thero further said that he will not reveal the names of the people who provided the information for security reasons.
In addition, he said that he had observed Father Cyril Gamini’s behavior from the beginning, and although he said that he would stand up for the victims of the Easter attacks, he was not a member of the LTTE. Venerable Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero also said that he has doubts about whether he is standing for the cause of the country.
The Venerable thero said this while answering questions from journalists regarding the torture of former State Intelligence Chief Suresh Sale.
