US opposes Iranian ship in Panadura waters entering Sri Lanka

Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, has assured that another Iranian ship is anchored near Panadura waters and that every effort is being made to rescue the people on board.

Commenting on this, the Iranian government has confirmed that another of its ships is heading towards Sri Lanka. Naval sources say that there is doubt as to whether this ship was anchored in Sri Lankan waters for safety after the torpedo attack on an Iranian ship yesterday.

However, what steps Sri Lanka should take if this ship attempts to enter a Sri Lankan port is being discussed in the political arena. Embassy sources state that if this ship were to be allowed to enter a Sri Lankan port, the United States would not be pleased with it.
