The United Nations has taken note of the incident in the Dehiwala area where two children were killed in a hand grenade attack.
Mark André, the UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, stated in a post on his X account that he was deeply shocked by the incident that claimed the lives of the two children.
Two children inside a house on Sirisangabo Mawatha, Dehiwala, died, and their father sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Kalubowila Hospital, following a hand grenade attack launched by unidentified individuals early yesterday morning (11).
The three-wheeler suspected to have been used by the perpetrators to carry out the attack was found abandoned yesterday in the Pahala Bope area of Padukka; however, no information regarding the suspects has been revealed so far.
Meanwhile, the police suspect that the bomb attack may have missed its intended target. Police suspect that the perpetrators had arrived to target the home of the uncle of the two deceased children—a man who was himself injured in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Kalubowila Hospital—and that this tragic incident occurred because the family had moved houses.
