Two generators at Norochcholai coal-fired power plant out of service

Two of the three 300 MW generators operating at the Norochcholai coal-fired power plant have now been out of service, says Sanjeewa Dhammika, National Secretary of the Electricity Users Association.

He said that the second unit that was out of service is expected to be reconnected to the national grid on January 2nd.

The first unit has been out of service since December 20th due to a leak in the boiler pipe system. However, it is reported that it will take until June 2nd next year to complete the repairs and reactivate it.

As a result, he says that a significant amount of capacity has been lost to the national grid.
