The Ministry of Environment stated that a special veterinary team began treating ‘Kavantissa,’ an elephant that had been roaming the Galgamuwa area, yesterday. The Ministry added that treatment is continuing today (25), with close attention being paid to the elephant’s condition.
Yesterday (24), the elephant was treated by a team of veterinarians, as well as veterinarians and wildlife officers from the Department of Wildlife Conservation. The Ministry states that wildlife officers and veterinary teams are working with great dedication to save the life of the elephant ‘Kavantissa,’ despite challenging conditions such as the rain.
When the Ministry of Environment inquired about the situation, the Director of Veterinary Services stated that there are no issues regarding the medication being administered to the elephant and that all necessary facilities and personnel are on standby should any emergency treatment or further medical intervention be required.
