Veteran film director Mr. Asoka Handagama has expressed his desire to cast Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in one of his film productions, should the opportunity arise.
He shared this sentiment in a Facebook post, praising the acting talent of the actress who portrays the character ‘Maya’ in the Netflix production. Handagama points out that while some people on social media have been agitated by her identifying her national identity as “Tamil Eelam” during an interview, she is officially a Canadian citizen born to parents who migrated to Canada due to the war.
He emphasizes that even though she cannot speak Tamil, this identity which she has constructed herself based on her South Asian heritage and the stories she has heard is her personal right.
