It is reported that Professor Kapila Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, has decided to resign from his post.
The immediate reason for this decision is considered to be the Supreme Court’s ruling that he has violated the fundamental rights of a senior official in the ministry.
It is reported that Professor Kapila Perera has also informed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake about his decision and has also officially informed the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government that he will resign from the post of Secretary.
He has also served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa. It is reported that he is preparing to rejoin the university service after resigning from the post of Secretary.
