Three Colombian women killed in helicopter crash in Brazil

Three Colombian women and the Brazilian pilot have died in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it has been reported.

Three Colombian women, all members of the same family, were killed in the crash yesterday afternoon, Colombia’s Consul General in Rio de Janeiro, Diana Paez, told Agence France-Presse.

Among the dead was a 15-year-old girl, who was on a trip to celebrate her birthday, she said, adding that two of her family members had organized the trip with her.

The plane was on a sightseeing tour through the Tijuca National Park, a densely forested mountainous area, when the accident occurred.

In a statement after the accident, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavalier urged authorities to monitor helicopter flights more closely.
