All Grama Niladharis in the country have decided to report for work on sick leave tomorrow (10) and the day after tomorrow (11) in protest against the non-increase in the travel allowance and the non-grant of the increased travel allowance approved since 2024, said Nandana Ranasinghe, Chairman of the Grama Niladhari Trade Union Alliance.
He said that the travel allowance of Rs. 600 given to Grama Niladharis has not been increased for 8 years, and that the Cabinet has approved to provide an allowance equivalent to 20 liters of fuel in place of the relevant allowance in 2024.
However, since that allowance has not been given so far, he stated that the trade union has started the protest tomorrow (10) and the day after tomorrow (11).
He said this while participating in a media conference held in Colombo today (09).
