The salary increase given to public servants in this budget is aimed at bringing the minimum basic salary of the public service to the limit of Rs. 40,000, says Deputy Minister of Labor and Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando.
Accordingly, another Rs. 15,750 is to be added to the current minimum basic salary of Rs. 24,250 in the public service. In that, two allowances of Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 5,000, which public servants already receive as allowances, will be added to the basic salary. Of the remaining Rs. 8,250, Rs. 5,000 and another 30%, i.e. Rs. 975, are to be added to the April 2025 salary.
Accordingly, a public servant currently receiving a salary of Rs. 24,250 will receive a salary of Rs. 37,724 in April 2025. It will reach the limit of Rs. 40,000 in 2027.
The remaining Rs. 2275 of the Rs. 8250 salary increment provided in the budget is to be added to the basic salary of public servants in 2026 and 2027.
In addition, the existing annual salary increment of Rs. 250 has been increased by 80%, and accordingly it becomes Rs. 450.
The minimum basic salary of government servants retiring on or after 2025 .01.01 is considered to be Rs. 40,000.
