There is a group in the President’s office behind the striking health workers

Government Medical Officers’ Forum (GMOF) President Dr. Rukshan Bellana said that apart from medical professionals like doctors and nurses, no one else has the ability to break the hospital system.

Speaking to the media, he said that these trade union leaders are in contact with senior officials attached to the trade union section of the President’s Office.

“We have repeatedly said that hospitals no longer need the services of health workers. Another failed strike has ended. Hospitals only need the expertise of professionals from health unions including doctors, nurses, administrative staff. This ineffective union government cannot be toppled,” he asserted.

Dr. Rukshan Bellana said that the protestors claim that 100,000 health workers participated in this protest, and accordingly, those 100,000 will lose their allowances for the number of days they went on strike, which would have saved the government more than 700 million rupees.

“If we participate in two or three more protests in the future, I think the government will be able to save more money,” he said.

However, Dr. Bellana said that some allowances approved by the government should be given to the nurses and asked the President to take immediate steps for that.
