The President’s Media Division said in a statement that during the talks held between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the high-ranking delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who came to Sri Lanka, the two sides discussed the future measures related to the third review and the measures that can be taken to avoid delays.
It states that President Dissanayake aims to achieve the goals of the program together with the IMF by looking for alternative approaches that reduce the burden on citizens. In Thursday’s talks, the President broadly agreed with the objectives of the IMF program and expressed his government’s willingness to provide relief to the people.
NPP Economic Council Chairman Professor Anil Jayantha told the media that the ongoing discussion with the IMF was mainly aimed at establishing a mutual understanding regarding the third review. He said the dates for the third review have not yet been announced and the government’s desired reforms to the IMF agreement will be discussed in the third review.
Meanwhile, IMF Communications Department Director Julie Kozack said at a press conference on Thursday that the dates for the third review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) will be announced in due course.
“The dates for the third review under the EFF will be announced in due course and the delegation currently in Sri Lanka will communicate when their visit is over,” she said.
