Iran is ready to support Sri Lanka as a “friendly country” and Tehran is ready to provide essential supplies, including oil, to Sri Lanka if the need arises, said Dr. Alireza Delkosh, the Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
He made these comments at a special media briefing held at the Iranian Embassy in Colombo.
Drawing attention to the escalating conflict in the Middle East and its potential impact on regional partners, he said that the declaration of the Strait of Hormuz as a war zone due to the ongoing hostilities between the United States and Israel does not affect friendly nations like Sri Lanka.
The discussion also focused on the Iranian ship ‘IRIS Dena’, which was sunk by a US submarine. He expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and humanitarian assistance provided by the Sri Lankan government to the surviving crew and cadets from the ship.
