The Attorney General informs the court that Ranil will be sued in a higher court.

The case filed by the Criminal Investigation Department alleging that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe caused a loss of over one and a half million rupees to the government while on a private visit to the United Kingdom while he was in office was taken up before the Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who appeared for the Attorney General, who presented his case before the court, stated that since the investigations against the former President are in the final stages, a case will be filed in a higher court.

His lawyers had requested that the travel ban on former President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, who is said to be a necessary person for the investigation in this case, be eased.

The request was presented in court yesterday (19), and President’s Counsel Kalinga Indratissa informed the court that he would withdraw the request to relax the travel ban on behalf of the Secretary.

Accordingly, the request to relax the travel ban was dismissed by the Magistrate.
