The government has reportedly decided to revise the amount paid per unit of electricity generated by rooftop solar panels. The cabinet paper for this has been submitted to the Cabinet, according to Energy Ministry sources.
Under the revised new payment formula, the amount paid per unit of electricity will vary depending on the number of electricity units generated. Accordingly, the amount paid for a unit of electricity, which is currently Rs. 27, is scheduled to be reduced to Rs. 19.
Solar systems generating less than 20 kilowatts will be paid at Rs. 19 per unit, while it is reported that it has been proposed to pay Rs. 17 per unit for an electricity generation system between 20 and 100 kilowatts and Rs. 15 per unit for a system between 100 and 500 kilowatts.
However, the sources said that these price revisions will not apply to currently installed solar panels and will only apply to new solar panels to be installed in the future.
