Four Sri Lankans sanctioned for wartime human rights abuses

The UK has imposed sanctions on four individuals responsible for serious human rights abuses during Sri Lanka’s civil war, effective yesterday (24).

The group includes two former army commanders, General Shavendra Silva and Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, and former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda.

In addition, former LTTE armed wing leader Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Ammanda is among the Sri Lankans sanctioned.

The group will be banned from entering the UK and any assets they may have in the country will be confiscated.
