Sri Lanka’s garment industry is in crisis

Investment Promotion State Minister Dilum Amunugama commented on the current problems in the garment industry.

Although Sri Lanka may experience some reduction in the amount of garment orders received. He also says that the flow of orders has fallen especially in Britain and America.

He says that the reason for this is the current political and economic situation in Sri Lanka and the economic crisis that after the Covid epidemic. He said that Sri Lankan factories are facing this situation because of the economic problems faced by those countries.

But he said that the factories should not be closed due to that situation, and if such a situation occurs, the investors and factories can be continued by providing the necessary concessions through the Board of Investment. However, he said that arrangements are currently being made to create six new industrial parks in the areas of Trincomalee and Mankulam, Paranthan and Kankasanthure, and in the areas of Iranavila and Bingiri in the North-West Province.
