Elephant House has issued a statement regarding the serious illness and hospitalization of a young woman after drinking a bottle of soft drink at a restaurant in People’s Park, Pettah.
The statement states that the news circulating on social media regarding Elephant House Ginger Beer (EGB) in connection with the incident is completely false. The statement states that the shopkeepers did not give the young woman their product Ginger Beer (EGB), but a detergent filled in an empty ginger beer bottle.
The Dam Street Police are investigating the incident and have been able to find several other bottles of the same type of detergent in the shop.
The young women, who received treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Institute of Epidemiology, have now been admitted to a general ward there. Ceylon Cold Stores, the company that produces EGB, wished the young woman a speedy recovery in a statement.
