A group of cricket fans, angry over the defeat of the national cricket team, staged a protest outside the Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters today (01). The main demand of the protesters was that the current Cricket Board should resign immediately.
The protest was organized under the leadership of a Buddhist monk, and a large number of civil activists and cricket fans joined it.
The protesters raised slogans demanding that Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman Shammi Silva and the board of directors immediately resign from their posts and “go home”. However, heavy police security was deployed around the headquarters due to the protest, and police sources said that no violent incident was reported.
