Sri Lanka head coach Sanath Jayasuriya has requested Prime Minister Modi to support Sri Lanka’s goal of bringing international cricket to Jaffna by constructing an international-level stadium.
He made the request during a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who recently visited Sri Lanka, and the 1996 World Cup-winning Sri Lankan cricket team. The event was attended by players from the 96 team, including Aravinda de Silva and Roshan Mahanama.
“As the coach of Sri Lanka, at the moment we are playing all over Sri Lanka except Jaffna. If India can help us bring an international stadium in Jaffna, it will be a great help to the people of the northern and eastern parts of Jaffna,” Sanath Jayasuriya said.
They thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the support shown by the Indian government when Sri Lanka faced an economic crisis.
