It is reported that the police went to arrest former MP Athuraliye Rathana Thero in connection with the abduction of Ven. Vedinigama Wimalathissa Thero, the General Secretary of the Ape Jana Bala Party in 2020.
The arrest is to be made in connection with an investigation initiated by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) in connection with a complaint filed by Vedenigama Piyatissa Thero regarding his abduction, forcibly obtaining his signature on documents and obtaining the party’s national list MP post. Accordingly, a team of police officers went to Sandaham Sewana in Rajagiriya last night (07) to arrest the Thero.
At the time of the incident, Athuraliye Rathana Thero had left the scene and it is reported that his mobile phone had also been deactivated.
It is said that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and dismissed former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon are scheduled to be summoned for further questioning regarding this incident.
