The news that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who had been somewhat distant from the public political stage and had followed a quiet path in the past, is ready to rejoin active politics has attracted a lot of attention in the political arena these days.
Speaking to journalists on this matter, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila said that Ranil Wickremesinghe had never withdrawn from politics to return.
“Although he has not been seen in public recently, he has remained active in political activities. He has never been away from politics. We have met face to face and have discussed things over the phone. He is already regrouping the opposition forces with a view to the upcoming elections.
It is no secret that the main reason for the current active opposition is Ranil Wickremesinghe’s direct involvement and contribution,” he added.
Meanwhile, political sources say that in the coming weeks, a major opposition alliance is set to be directly involved in the operations of the opposition.
