The UNP Working Committee meeting was held yesterday at the Sirikotha party headquarters under the patronage of its leader, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. At the meeting, it was reported that the UNP has decided to contest several municipal councils under the “Elephant” symbol in the upcoming local government elections.
Several new appointments have been made and the upcoming local government elections and the current political situation have also been discussed.
Accordingly, it has been proposed to contest 04 municipal councils under the “Elephant” symbol under the UNP in the upcoming local government elections.
It is reported that the proposal has received the agreement of the majority. Accordingly, they have decided to contest the Colombo, Kandy, Galle, and Nuwara Eliya municipal councils under the “Elephant” symbol.
It is said that the working committee members have said that they can seize power in these 4 municipal councils, which are more advantageous to the United National Party.
However, attention was also focused on competing for other local government institutions and competing in alliance with other political parties. Meanwhile, discussions have already begun between the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the United National Party and several rounds of discussions have been held.
