Rajitha’s bail application to be considered on September 1.

The Colombo High Court has ordered that the petition filed by former Minister Rajitha Senaratne seeking to be released on anticipatory bail, revoking the decision of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court rejecting his request for release on anticipatory bail before his arrest, be called on September 1 for consideration.

The petition was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Indrika Kalingawansa today (07).

Assistant Director of the Bribery Commission, Sulochana Hettiarachchi, who appeared on behalf of the Commission, stated that the Commission has not received any notices related to this case.

She said that she will appear in court today based only on the information she has received.

At that time, President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne, who appeared for the petitioner, presented evidence before the court, stating that although the notices related to this case had been formally handed over to the office, this situation may have arisen due to some oversight.

However, since the officials of the Bribery Commission are appearing in court today, the President’s Counsel said that there is a possibility to consider this petition today. The court rejected that argument and ordered the case to be recalled on September 01.
