Pramodya Wickramasinghe, the former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee, has initiated legal action against the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee to recover Rs. 75 million in compensation. Accordingly, he has filed a lawsuit regarding this matter in the Colombo Commercial High Court.
He filed this suit challenging the arbitrary and premature termination of his two-year appointment—which had commenced with the approval of the Minister of Sports—by the Cricket Transformation Committee.
He alleges that this decision was made without prior notice, adequate justification, or due legal process.
Wickramasinghe asserts that by abruptly terminating an existing contractual appointment, the committee acted irrationally and contrary to the best interests of Sri Lanka cricket. Furthermore, he has requested the court to award him Rs. 75 million in compensation—inclusive of applicable interest and legal fees—for breach of contract, loss of income, and damage to his professional reputation. He states that upon accepting the two-year appointment, he had to set aside his other professional and business activities to successfully fulfill the role; furthermore, the premature termination of the appointment resulted in the loss of the remuneration due under the contract, as well as additional financial losses stemming from the business and professional opportunities he had sacrificed.
The statement also highlights several achievements Sri Lanka secured during his previous tenure as Chairman of the Selection Committee. These include winning the 2022 T20 Asia Cup, finishing as runners-up in the 2023 Asia Cup, and winning the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament undefeated.
