State Minister for Investment Promotion Dilum Amunugama said that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will support current President Ranil Wickremesinghe if he contests the next presidential election.
This was stated by the minister while expressing his views at a press conference held today in Kandy.
He further mentioned that since the presidential election is being held this year, President Ranil Wickremesinghe should announce to the country whether he will run for it as a common candidate or as a candidate of a single party.
Expressing further comments, the Minister of State said:
“The leader who was elected by popular vote of 69 lakh votes send back home under the guise of a struggle. After that, Sajith Premadasa, Anura Dissanayake and even Sarath Fonseka were invited to take over the presidency. It was when they backed down that the current President Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe accepted the challenge. Now the country is raising its head again to some extent. The empty treasury is being activated again. The honor of bringing the country to this state belongs to the current President. Therefore, I think that he should be allowed to continue like this for some time.”
