Asian Human Rights Commission makes special request to President

The Asian Human Rights Commission has made a request to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to implement urgent reforms to restore the rule of law and respect for it.

It is reported that the relevant request has been made in writing by the Policy and Programme Director of the Asian Human Rights Commission, Basil Fernando.

It has outlined three important areas that require immediate attention in the legal reform process in the country.

The Asian Human Rights Commission is said to have pointed out that the daily hearing of serious criminal cases in the High Courts, the introduction of laws to control bribery and corruption, and the reform of the Attorney General’s Department are among those issues.
