Excavations were carried out for the third day today (November 23) at a place where a treasure is said to be located near the area where the Wandurawa Expressway is being constructed in Veyangoda.
The rock pile that emerged there yesterday was blasted today. Although the various sized stone blocks were broken into small pieces and examined, nothing foreign could be found.
After the stone blocks were removed, the excavated area was subjected to a scan, but the machine did not show anything.
Several groups had previously dug for treasure at this place and 9 people, including a monk, have been arrested and remanded in custody by the police in connection with this.
Accordingly, the Veyangoda Police conducted this treasure hunt for the past three days in accordance with an order issued by the Attanagalla Magistrate’s Court.
Several government institutions, including the Geology and Mines Bureau, the Government Analyst’s Department, the Road Development Authority, the Police Special Task Force, the Mirigama Divisional Secretariat, etc., had contributed to this.
This is the first time that a treasure hunt has been carried out with the contribution of government institutions in Sri Lanka.
