Misconceptions about treasures are spreading in society due to ”Nidhan Wadhula”, says the D.G Archaeology.

A misconception about treasures has been created in society based on
Palm Leaf manuscripts written after the 18th century, including treasures , says Director General of Archaeology Professor Thusitha Mendis.

He also said that the Department of Archaeology has not found any valuable or valuable resources as mentioned in the ”Nidhan Wadhula” in its excavations across the island so far.

The Director General of Archaeology expressed these views at a media briefing held in Kandy today to raise awareness about the treasure troves being excavated in the Veyangoda area adjacent to the Central Expressway.

He said that although the large boulders found during the excavations in Vandurawa were broken down and examined, nothing archaeologically significant was found. He said that several people have been arrested for unauthorized excavations by various parties and that the Department of Archaeology has reported on several occasions that no archaeological objects have been found in this area.

He said that what was detected by the scanner at this location was probably naturally occurring metal.

The Director General of Archaeology further said that many objects of archaeological value have been found in various areas, but they are archaeologically priceless objects.
