The All Ceylon Bakeries Association (ACBOA) says that the sale of cake bread and buns in the local market has fallen by about 50% due to high production costs.
The association says that this crisis has arisen due to the increase in the production cost of bread, buns and cakes due to the increase in the price of margarine by 1,000 rupees and butter by 3,000 rupees.
The president of the association further said that since the stocks of eggs imported from India have not yet been received by their members, they have to pay 60 rupees for an egg produced locally.
Therefore, before the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year, the bakery owners’ association requests the government to reduce the prices of the ingredients required for the bakery and give concessions.
