Nilwalawa prepares for a great flood. All schools in Matara are closed.

The Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Irrigation Department says that the water level has risen to 6.87 meters in the Panadugama area, and if it rises to 7.50 meters, it will be a major flood.

The Irrigation Department, which is making a statement about the bad weather that is severely affecting the Matara district, states that if another 150 mm of rain falls in the Nilwala catchment area, a major flood may occur.

Commenting further, Irrigation Director S.P.C. Sugeeshwara says that the people of the lowlands around the Nilwala river should be very careful. Considering the current disaster situation, the Ministry of Education of the Southern Province has decided to close all schools in Matara district on 05 and 06 days.
