A couple and their 14-year-old daughter who fled Sri Lanka by boat despite eight travel bans imposed by the Trincomalee and Batticaloa courts have been arrested at the Katunayake Airport upon their return.
The arrested are a 49-year-old man and his 43-year-old wife from Colombo 05 who fled to India by boat with their daughter in 2021.
An INTERPOL red notice had been issued for the arrest of the couple, who were wanted in connection with a large-scale financial fraud across the country.
The man and his daughter were arrested after arriving at the Katunayake Airport on one flight and his wife on another flight that night.
The suspects have been handed over to the Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the Colombo Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters for further investigations.
