Newly imported cabs are not being given to everyone who asks.

Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, says that the vehicles expected to be provided to increase the efficiency of the public service will not be available to all members of Parliament under any circumstances.

Participating in the media briefing held today (11) to inform the media of the cabinet decisions, he said that there is no need to provide these new ones to those who have already been provided with vehicles by the government.

The Minister said this while responding to a question asked by journalists about the recent announcement by the President during his budget speech regarding the import of 1775 cabs for the public service and to whom he expects to provide these cabs.

He said that the shortage of vehicles has become an obstacle to the continuation of the development activities envisaged by the government, and considering this situation, the government has decided to purchase essential vehicles for state institutions and a number of vehicles and machinery that will be provided on the basis of returning them to members of Parliament at the end of their term. The President mentioned in the budget speech that he proposes to allocate Rs. 12,500 million, which is basically required for that.

In such a situation, we expect to purchase 1,775 vehicles for the public service according to our capabilities. He has allocated this amount with the aim of acquiring vehicles and machinery for the public service. Next, the 225 MPs will not be given any. Those who have currently been provided with a vehicle by the government do not need a vehicle. For example, the cabinet, deputy ministers. The opposition leader, the chief organizer of the opposition, etc. will not be given a vehicle to those who have currently been provided with a vehicle by the government.” The minister said.
