Navy seizes drug stock worth 4,000 million rupees

During a search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the sea area 133 nautical miles (about 246 km) from Sri Lanka, they were able to seize 179 kilograms and 906 grams of ice, and 83 kilograms and 582 grams of heroin.

This drug stock is worth nearly 3,798 million rupees. A local multi-day fishing vessel and six persons were arrested. Additionally, another local one-day fishing vessel was apprehended with four people suspected of waiting for a drug transaction in the sea.

On April 12, 2024, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Ship (SLCG) Samudraksha played a crucial role in apprehending the suspects and seizing the drugs.

Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera inspected the seized stock at the Galle port.
