The Maharagama Police OIC stated that Viraj Wickramanayake, the owner of Mr. Kottu, was arrested following extensive investigations into the brutal assault of an employee working under him on the 5th.
The incident came to light after a series of security camera footage showing him brutally assaulting an employee in his restaurant rapidly circulated on social media. Accordingly, the arrested man is scheduled to be produced before the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court, Maharagama Police said.
Commenting on this, Police Media Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wuttler had earlier stated that a special investigation has been initiated by the Maharagama Police Station based on these footage.
In several areas of the island Viraj Wickramanayake, the owner of this sprawling restaurant chain, has always appeared on social media as someone who treats his employees with the utmost respect. However, he had previously been reported on social media to have assaulted his employees on several occasions. However, after this incident was exposed on social media with video footage, there was a strong opinion in society that he should be arrested.
