Transport Minister Bandhula Gunawardena said that it is not possible for the public sector to invest in the railway service by using capital. The minister further said that the slow methods in the departmental system are a hindrance to the development of the train service and the department should be turned into a railway authority to make it a revenue generating institution by providing more efficient service.
The minister said this while participating in the launch of many services including facilities for safe depositing of their valuables outside the local and foreign tourists who come to Ella railway station to engage in tourism activities around the area.
