The National Security Committee of the Iranian parliament is reviewing a draft law on the management of the Strait of Hormuz, along with the judiciary, economic and civil subcommittees, Al Jazeera reported, citing Iranian state media IRIB.
Iran has not disclosed the content of the draft law. However, senior Iranian officials have previously said that the review aims to assert its country’s rights and sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and introduce fees for vessels passing through the strait.
Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nixad said in May that the draft law would “never allow Israeli vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz” and would not compensate for damage caused to ships in “enemy countries.”
