The IGP has reportedly instructed to immediately initiate an investigation into the video circulating on social media of the Ambalangoda Police brutally attacking a person. According to the video, the person was arrested for not having an identity card and was attacked by several Ambalangoda Police officers.
However, the police say that the person was arrested by the Ambalangoda Police on the night of the 24th for wandering around the road in an indecent manner while drunk.
The police say that the suspect tried to escape from the police officers during the arrest and that he fell and sustained injuries, and blood is seen in the video.
The person who was attacked has been admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital, and after an examination by the Judicial Medical Officer, the Balapitiya Additional Magistrate has ordered his release on bail.
