Intelligence Unit intervenes to grant bail to Shinee Moulavi and others.

Additional Solicitor General Dilipa Peiris told the Fort Magistrate’s Court that Azad Maulana testified that military intelligence units intervened to grant bail to Shinee Moulavi and others, members of the group that carried out the Easter Sunday terrorist attack.

He stated that a group of officers including the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Superintendent of Police Shani Abeysekara, went to France and recorded a statement from Azad Maulana there.

According to that statement, it is confirmed that Shinee, the brother of Saharan Hashim, the leader of the group that carried out the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, and others were arrested on suspicion of the Alliyar Junction clash and were remanded in custody, and that Pillayan and his group had met.

He said that after that meeting, a discussion was held with the participation of Suresh Saleh regarding coordination between the two groups, and that Azad Maulana had informed the Criminal Investigation Department.
