It has been reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is planning to nominate three individuals to the Constituent Assembly this week for the position of the next Inspector General of Police.
Deputy Inspectors of Police Nilantha Jayawardene, LS Patinayake, Deshbandu Tennakoon, Priyantha Weerasuriya, and P.P.S.M Dharmaratne are among the top candidates for the position of the next Inspector General of Police. According to the report, the president will nominate three individuals from this group based on their seniority.
Meanwhile Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith Cardinal has sent a letter to the Speaker and members of the Constituent Assembly regarding the appointment of the new Inspector General of Police. In the letter, he requests that the names of two Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) not be considered.”
