Eastern Province Governor Senthil Thondaman says that Sri Lanka’s presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held this year, and if the government changes at this time, the country may go into a dangerus crisis again.
“This country went into a major economic crisis. Aswell as a debt crisis. No politician came forward to take over this country and move it forward. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe took responsibility for it. He has stabilized the economy and is restoring the country. But if there is a change in the government, what will happen, the people will have to go back to the place where this entire development started and bear the burden of economic difficulties again,” he said.
Commenting on ongoing discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he said the president is working with the global agency to secure the necessary funds and support, adding that the country is well and truly on track. He also mentioned that the country has entered the path of recovery.
Giving further comments, the Governor of the Eastern Province also said,
“Majority of Sri Lankans think that President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government will come back and take the country forward in the next five years. The President is working very closely with the International Monetary Fund and we are following all their guidelines. We are confident that our nation will recover as soon as possible.”
