Husband who stabbed and stoned wife to death surrenders to police

A man who stabbed his wife to death while she was sleeping at home surrendered to the Nawalapitiya police this morning (04), said Nawalapitiya Police OIC Chief Inspector Harendra Kalugampitiya. The victim of the murder is Gayani Dilrukshi Kumari (46), a mother of three, who resided in Nawalapitiya.

It is reported that she was staying at her daughter’s house due to constant arguments with her husband, and that she works in a garment factory in Colombo. It is reported that she was murdered when she returned to her daughter’s house in Nawalapitiya yesterday.

The murdered woman’s daughter told police that her father, armed with a knife, entered the house through a window at around 1.30 am today and stabbed her mother who was sleeping in the room. When her mother ran out of the house to escape, the father stabbed her again and hit her on the head with a stone outside the house.

The body is to be sent to the Judicial Medical Examiner of the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital for a post-mortem examination after the Nawalapitiya Magistrate’s examination of the scene.
